I didn't know where else to ask this. Moderator, please move it if necessary.

On TV yesterday I saw a woman who said she was fired by the same man who fired Steve Jobs. She then did a gesture that I remember from a long time ago...I don't recall seeing anyone do it recently.

You put your hand in front of you, palm facing you, with fingers curved toward you. Blow on the nails, then rub them on your chest about heart level.

It means something like "I'm hot stuff...important...etc."

Does that gesture have a name? Do you know the origin of it?

Thanks.

Ding! Ding! Ding! This HAS to be the most unusual question of the day!

Sorry, cindycat - I know which gesture you're talking about, and you describe it well, but as far as I know it has no specific name.

I know the gesture too cindycat. Like Pam, I have no recollection of what it called.

I know other things GFY could stand for...............

I don't think there is a Smiley for it though. It takes face to face contact.

If you are the one making the gesture, it means: "Good for me, ha ha I got one over you".

I've always seen it used by someone indicating they are hot stuff or did something really well. I don't know of any gestures having names except "the finger" also called "the bird" or "the bird finger." Same gestures mean different things in different countries. For example, we use the thumbs up icon a lot here on CD and it's a positive. A German I knew years ago said that in Europe the same gesture means "up yours." And so it goes.
