Ever had the situation where you are going on vacation and the extra work needed to prepare for it, both at work and at home, and the work needed to sort things out when you get back, makes you wonder if it was ever worthwhile going away in the first place?
We used to have a running joke about going on vacation where I worked. It seemed that as soon as you were a week or so away from leaving on vacation, things that you normally didn't have to deal with at work just started coming out of the woodwork. A client you hadn't heard from in months would suddenly call you and want a complete review of his strategy and new proposals for twelve different scenarios. Or you boss wanted you to learn and then teach a whole new reporting system to your staff. It was like the universe knew you were trying to get out of there for vacation and decided to throw everything it could at you to try and thwart you!
I always do it ahead of time. When I'm ready to go, I just want to pick up and be on my way....I found out the hard way that I get too frustrated if I leave everything until the last minute. I used to allow everyone one bag and a carry on. That made it very simple..
During my camping years, 40 years ago, I had a list of what all was needed for every camping trip. It streamlined the process and made everything much smoother. For a vacation today, I start packing about 3 days before and on the day of departure all I have left to pack are toiletries.
For some reason setting up that 2nd tent was frustrating this year. & we've done it so many times.
So much to bring & unbring!
A camping trip or Rving trip takes much more time to prepare for than flying or cruising somewhere.
