I'm not sure I understand the point of your post. Isn't it a given, than any activity that a person enjoys to the degree where it is a hobby, is something that said person would be sad to have to give up?
well yes, but there are certain activities that people would be more upset to give up than others ...I didn't know my posts need to have that much of a point anyways, its all just for discussion and conversation.
Reading is my greatest enjoyment, and now that I'm older and my vision is fading, I'm concerned about losing the ability to read. The rare and out-of-print books that most interest me will never make it to audio.

I love house painting - I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I just love it. I've never done it commercially, just with whatever house I'm living in. A couple of years ago I painted my current house, both inside and outside. When that was finished, I painted all eleven rooms in my friend's house, and then another friend's five room apartment. If I'd had any other friends needing paint jobs, I'd have happily done them too!
Shortly afterwards, I contracted a virus (one of the Epstein-Barr varieties) - which lasted the best part of a year and left me with some residual dizziness - so now I have great difficulty looking upwards or downwards, and even more difficulty climbing ladders. I also got a frozen shoulder (probably my own fault - too much painting), so now I can't move my arm freely enough to use a paintbrush or roller.
Since I'm also classified as "elderly" (LOL - the outside is definitely elderly, the inside still feels 25), I'm afraid that my house-painting days are over. And yes, I'm very sad about it. Pi$$ed off too!
Reading and crafting. I've cut waaaay back on crafting since the messiness makes my husband crazy. Even if I clean it up perfectly when I'm done, while I'm doing it he gets really irratable and stressed by the mess. I'm pretty sad about that but.. idk.. I still color a lot which gets me my fix somewhat.
I'm really getting back into reading more and more though and I'm loving it!
Were someone to live to old age and get through that life without giving up or loosing some great passion they had once possessed they would be truly blessed. I did not do so nor do I know anyone who has. It teaches us we are humble and to appreciate what remains I think.
