Didn't the Rodeo come with a Honda V6 for a time? Basically a rebadged Passport? Always heard those were OK.
It was other way around. Honda was caught without an SUV and they bought Rodeos and sold them as the Passport. I couldn't figure out why they didn't reuse that name though, good name I think. Honda in turn sold Isuzu their original Odyssey, the one with 4 hinged doors that wasn't really fully a minivan. Isuzu sold this as the Oasis.
Does anyone remember the Isuzu Impulse, designed by Giugiaro
The original first gen Impulse was an interesting car for the early 80s. It's a rear drive, not very powerful by today's standards but back then stuff was pretty wimpy. By the end of its run it was outgunned.
Isuzu's bread and butter in the US was really the Trooper and then the Rodeo when that came out (they moved the Trooper more upscale at that point). Seems like those were fairly popular while some others scrambled to make SUVs fast enough for the demand. Eventually the larger companies caught up in that segment and Isuzu became an also-ran.

Honda also picked up the Trooper and rebadged it as Acura SLX.
Yeah, that was a pretty good diesel engine. It's a shame you really can't get anything like that these days.
