Hi Orlando! I was laid-off recently and want to get back to Florida (currently in Atlanta area ). Aldi, the small grocery store chain, is moving into the Florida market in a big way. I am interested in management with them. Anyone have the 411 on this company? I've researched it online and it seems like a good opportunity for somebody who's trying to re-invent herself. Your comments/opinions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks....

I like the store and I know they pay $20/hr for managers.

They are the peak of efficiency. and very few are used to run the store. The "manager" will also take a part in most every function in the store. They have expanded quickly in our market. The 2 brothers that developed the company are German and divided their operations. Both of them are among the top 100 wealthiest billionaires.
The store uses many of their own brands and have some of the highest quality in the groceries stores. Unlike Winn Dixie or Publix that takes old meat and rewraps it with a fresh cover of red meat Aldi's meats are fresh through out... Gross I know but its true. Many of their store brans are better than the name brands. A few are not so good but I'd give them a 95% of good for all their brands.
Sometimes they get some specialty foods which are outstanding.... remembering a lemon tart and an apple tart...YUM! You will also see some German foods too.

You can't get everything there but you can get a lot and it will be cheaper than anyone. The stores are clean, despite the people that come there. You can reduce your grocery spending a good 10% off of Walmart prices. remember to have a quarter to get a shopping cart and carry some reusable bags or grab a box as you shop otherwise you will pay for your bags.

It use to be that the cashiers had to remember all the prices and would 10 key the prices vs scanning.. they were so fast. Now they scan so I guess its easier for them but it is slower. but way faster than the other stores.

Thanks for your input Aone and Beckycat! I got some very negative responses on the Tampa and Fort Myers threads?? Maybe Orlando is just cheerier. I have two brothers in your area, so I guess I'll focus on the Orlando market. Thanks again!

I really do like Aldi like I said. I'm happy with the stores in the area. They are very clean. They are only run by a few employees, but they do a fine job.
You can't be the money you save shopping there either.

Good luck! You may wan't to check the website for job postings. I know it's hard to get anyone on the phone.
