Looking at relocating next year from the tri state area to Lake Mary. I have heard the Oviedo area is a good place to raise a family. My kids are 8 and 11. Can anyone tell me about the commute to Lake Mary from Oviedo. It seems as though the property taxes are a little higher but the homes are newer. I was looking at a community called Sanctuary. Are the schools good there?

Nice area, and excellent schools. But if you will be working in Lake Mary, why not look into living in Lake Mary?

The commute would be easy, but Oviedo doesn't have much that Lake Mary could not give you. Unless you have something very specific.

Oviedo is great. Its more quiet than lake mary. Lake mary is on a major highway and route surrounded by other suburban developements. and has a lot of out of towns drivers driving through it daily. Oviedo is on the outskirts of town boarding the country. I would much rather live in Oviedo. Theyre both great towns though, its just personal preference.

Commute would be very easy, just hop on the 417 which is almost never crowded and it's a straight shot to the northern end of Lake Mary.

The Sanctuary is a good community, but I prefer across the street in Live Oak, there are also many other neighborhoods to consider in the general area. Also check out Winter Springs just West of Oviedo.

For school information check a properties address here Welcome to Seminole County Public Schools

This was pretty much our assessment as well - we looked into Lake Mary, Winter Springs, Winter Park and Tuscawilla....we settled in Oviedo , the Sanctuary in fact and are quite happy here Our daughter is 11 and there are plenty of kids to play with, and the city of Oviedo provides a lot of activities for the kids as well. Live Oak is nice as well, we felt the Sanctuary offered a more private layout of the houses, and smaller development but still with the amenities and community of a development with the pool and playground, etc. It is definitely a personal preference...I am not a shopper as much as a nature buff and the 'country' is more appealing to me than is having shopping within walking distance...altho shopping is a two minute drive away

We moved to Oviedo this past summer and couldn't decide where we wanted to live. We loved Sanctuary and Live Oak subdivisions. Both are similar with Live Oak being larger. It's funny because someone else mentioned liking the layout better in Sanctuary but we actually felt like Live Oak was better planned and layed out. We ended up renting a house for a year in Riverside Estates and love the walk to the elementary school (Partin). I like the closeness of the elementary school to Live Oak and don't like that Sanctuary has to go to a further away elementary school (Walker). Maybe because there were too many children to put on Partin. Both subdivisions go to the same Middle School (Lawton Childes--which is actually located in the Sanctuary neighborhood) and the same High School (Hagerty) which is just a short drive down Lockwood. Good luck with your move.
