My fiance (26) and I (31) are relocating to Florida from Connecticut for work and would like to find a nice town no more than 30 minutes outside of Orlando. We are laid back and prefer the small town feel. We are not big partiers but enjoy a good live music scene, shopping, eating out, and our weekly salsa lessons. Orlando seems like it is too busy for us. Please respond..

Lot's of great info on this site. However to help start you off, I think Winter Springs, Oviedo, Winter Garden, Windermere/Dr. PHillips, and Lake Mary would be good places to start. Depending on if schools are a big deal for you and your preference in neighborhood feel, either seem to match all of your above criteria.

What town in CT will you be moving from? Are you CT natives?

I grew up in Madison, CT and moved down to Orlando 11 years ago. I currently live in Winderemere, but I've lived in Kissimmee and Hunter's Creek. It was a struggle adjusting to the small town feel of the Shoreline to the sprawl of O'town. The idea of a CT "town" is difficult to translate here. There are more pockets and sections of Orlando that would fit the bill for you - all depends on where you are working and how far you want your commute to be.

You should look at one of the smaller towns in Lake County like Mt. Dora or out by Clermont as most people are suggesting suburbs and neighborhoods in Orlando, but if you want a small town environment, you are probably best off in Lake county and then you can drive into town for live music, lounges, and salsa dancing.

Default Agree that Lake County might fit the bill

I agree that Lake County might be what you are looking for. I live in Sorrento, a small town in Lake County, 30 minutes north of Orlando and a hop skip and a jump from Mount Dora. Beautiful countryside, horse farms, yet very convenient to night life, shopping, nice restaurants.
