I'm a lifelong Tampa denizen and love it here. Unfortunately USF is in the worst possible neighborhood, plus I want a little change so I plan on going to UCF to finish my degree. I have been to Orlando lots of times (obviously) but only been around Alafaya once. I was impressed with what I saw, sort of like night/day compared to University (Suitcase City!) in Tampa; although looks could be decieving. I was wondering if any of you guys had experience aroud the UCF area. How is the overall tempo of the area, crime, traffic etc? When/if I make the move I will be living in a student residence. Thanks peoples!

meeeh i live off university Bvld...like 5 mins from UCF. I am a recent graduate from there as well. Where i live is great...no crime whatsoever. but the student apartments along alafaya are a different story. Some live there without any problems and other encounter TONS. Lots of car thefts and buglaries...even had a shooting (or 2?) at one of the Pegasus landing or pointe places. Then again, use common sense and be aware of your surroundings and you'll most likely be fine. You willl get a lot of advice from people on here are where to stay. But first off let me not scare you away with all the above lol... UCF is a good school and Orlando isn't as krappy as some make it out to be, i've been here since i was in 6th grade and now am graduated and making my career here.

Traffic...can be bad and is the worst during the first few days a semester starting. I drive down university to Alafaya every morning around 7:45 and 8 am and have no problems getting to work.

Overall i think you will enjoy it here...Just be weary of some of the alafaya apts...you can do a search on these forums for, UCF/apartments and im sure you'll get some of threads that have already been posted that will get u a lotta info on surrounding apts...or just start a new thread and im sure people will be happy to help.

You'll like it here.

UCF area while may have crime from time to time, the area doesn't compare to the USF area which is scary at night, there are like 2 Church's chicken real close to USF, that says it all. UCF is definitely in a better area and even a little rural since it's on the Seminole county border which is not that built up. Also the Lake Pickett area (Ashington Park, Regency Park neighborhoods) behind UCF's campus is a good place to move into a house w/ friends. Apartments I would recommend Tivoli and Northgate off McCullough or Arden Villas off University..u can take the shuttle to class w/o having to worry about parking and even can walk to campus if you had to. I don't recommend Pegasus Connection, Pegasus Landing, College Station, U-House, and College Station....you'll get weird crowds in those places.

Well thanks for the insight people. Sort of concurred with what I had thought. Student apartments are definitely the way to go since I can take the school's shuttle for a two minute ride, and I do not have to worry about roommates bailing on me. Anyone have any specific experienes with the Alafaya residence halls?
