My family and I are planning to relocate to Orlando in the summer. My brother and I are to attend UCF (not on campus), but we also are going to get Disney annual passes so we'd be going over there often, as well as going to the Millenia Mall/IKEA area. We were considering moving somewhere like Oviedo, but that an even farther drive we realized. Are there any safe neighborhood/areas for a family to live that is close to the university, but not terribly far from Disney, Millenia, IKEA, etc? Thanks.

Check out the Lee Vista area on the SE side which is bounded by Lee Vista Boulevard, Narcoosee Road, the 417, Goldenrod Rd and Curry Ford Rd. The Econlockhatchee Trail, Chickasaw Trail and Lee Vista Blvd corridors are the primary areas for rentals and are convenient to both UCF and the Disney area.

What you think you will be doing and what actually happens once you get here and start LIFE here are pretty much two different things.

As a college student you will not have time to pursue the same activities you do when visiting as a tourist. I would not base my choice of where to live on the places I'd be visiting now and then, but rather on the places I will NEED to go daily.

If you take the attitude that school is the same as having a job, you can have lots of time for other activities. It was the best advise my son got on his tour and orientation at UCF. You give 40 hours a week to go to your classes and study. After the 40 hours the time is yours. Sophomore year my son was an RA in the dorm, worked three 8-12 hour days (FRi-Sun) at WDW and had an internship(worked 10 hours a week if I remember correctly) at a sports game company EA Sports or something like that in Orlando. He actually still got to spend time in the parks just for fun. He and his friends also got the cheaper season pass for Wet and Wild and he has always had the Busch Garden/Sea World pass so he had lots of options. We would meet him at SW or a restaurant in that area on his way back to the college about 3 or 4 times a month just to see him, make sure he was eating, and hand over more money.

So maybe a home in Williamsburg or other area close to Sea World might be an option for the OP.
