Hey guys, I just moved to Orlando and was wondering if there were any high schools in the area that open their sports tracks to the public in the evenings. My old high school at home had a "open track" policy (for lack of a better term) where people could come and go jogging after work. Are there any here? I haven't personally looked or gone to them yet. I wanted to know if anyone knew right off hand who lives or has lived in this area? I'm close to Winter Springs High so if anyone knows about that one, let me know. Thanks guys.

Joel

Not sure, But here in Sanford at Seminole, I don't think the track is open to the public. Seminole being owned & operated by the Seminole county public schools. I don't think Lyman, Winter Springs, or Lake Brantley have open tracks. I know when I lived in Orange County the whole community used to go out there to the local track. I just run down the Seminole trail every night.

Wait, so property taxes pay for public schools and the public isn't allowed to use the tracks? That is crazy. Even in PA and NJ we had access to the school tracks and playgrounds.

Pretty much... In Orange they were open, but in Seminole unless there is an even they are quick o close them. As soon as the high school gets out, But like I said I am not to sure about the high schools there so go there, and check them out.

I don't know about a high school track, but there's one at - I think - a middle school on Tuskawilla Rd. about 1/4 of a mile before you get to Hwy. 434. I see obvious non-students on it all the time, and there's no fence around it. I've run on it with my kids on the weekend once; no one was around to say "no."

Sadly this is 25-30 miles from Orlando.

Anyone know of one in or closer to Orlando?

Yeah this has been tough for me too. UCF kept their campus track open until a couple years ago but since then I haven't been able to find a good track. The distance around Bright House stadium is about a half mile and serves that purpose. But Indian Trails may be a good option too.
