Depending on how much you make, the kids may very well qualify for FL Kid Care.

ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY!!

No, it doesn't cover the cost of you and your spouse... but in the situation of a friend of mine; it was pay something like 800+/month for just the wife and him or $1200 a month for the whole family. He's paying the $800+/month for the wife and himself and like $20/month for both the kids.

Yup, same here As a matter of a fact, my DH has his own business and we qualify. The OP should definitely check it out. I think for a family of 4, you can make up to $50-$60K to qualify if I'm not mistaken.

My Grandmother is paying about 400 a month for secondary insurance, not including the amount they take out of her SS..
My advice, take what you can get.. Grin and bear it because a 4 day stay in the hospital will ruin you unless you are rich.
Shop around of course and read the fine print and talk to your broker untill he want to go home to eat dinner..
A week in the Hospital will cost you the price of a 3 bedroom home...

The only other program they have for adults is "Share of Cost" through Medicaid.

It's for low income families. It is based on income. The way it works is you have a deductible to meet every month. If your medical bills exceed that deductible, the Medicaid will be activated for the rest of the month. Not everyone qualifies, but you can apply.

There are several health clinics in the area that work on a sliding scale. It won't do you any good for hospitalization or specialists though. It's just for basic things like doctor's visits, lab work and medications.

Hope this helps!

It would be awesome if we had a state-run insurance program here like they do in Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Oregon. Though I guess that would involve state taxes which we all know would never fly here..

They did have it in PA as well. It was so much more affordable. I think they discontinued it b/c of funding.
