You'll be able to find a job in IT but depending on experience you will most likely have to go the contract route. There is a cycle of contracting that many in the industry go through before landing a full-time job.... That was always my problem with the industry is that companies would outsource most of thier jobs to contractors and then either axe the contract before they had to make a hiring decision on you or extend you with the understanding that you still aren't getting any benefits from them..... You get to insistant upon being hired on full-time and they'll find someone else....

Best bet and what worked for me would be to look at IT jobs with the government. I worked for a school system for almost 8 years and the pay was actually BETTER than what Siemens would have hired me at to start. Throw in paid hollidays and benefits and it was a real winner IMO......

As far as contractors it's been awhile for me so I don't know who's who anymore....

Default Good Question...

I'm looking for a similar answer. The company I work for has an office in Orlando and I'm considering making a move because I have elderly parents to take care of. I've heard that Florida has good resources for the elderly (not sticking them in a nursing home, I would like for them to live with me) and the housing seems comparitively inexpensive when looking at a single-family home. I've recently been looking at NC also (Raliegh area). I just basically would like to know if Orlando could be a viable option for either a transfer or a job move, if it comes to that, for an IT professional in my circumstance (parents, etc.,).

Thanks in advance...

Default What IT role(s)?

You a DBA, hardware, SAN, WAN specialist or something else?

Although I don't know the market there, as I'm relocating with an existing company, I think you need to be a litttle more specific in your specialisms before anybody here can usefully comment.

I had to turn to Google for some of those

Can't offer any advice at the moment I'm afraid as I don't touch down until September.

Sorry...I forget sometimes that our industry is just full of TLA's (Three Letter Acronyms). I'll continue my research and see if I can add anything to the conversation later.
