Keep in mind that with insurance, cheapest often isn't best.
the types of pets you have? That's an odd factor.

Not at all. If you have a dog on the dangerous breed list you'll pay a lot more than someone with a goldfish.

We are with ASI. To insure a value of $350,000 (with enclosed pool) is $1200/year. The best part is the deductible is only $500, and that INCLUDES hurricane damage. Most providers make you pay a much higher deductible if damage is hurricane-related, but not ASI.

One thing to note that recently saved me A LOT of money. Since home values have come down so far, it is really wise to ask your home owners insurance company if your amount of coverage should be reduced. You only need coverage for "replacement cost", and today that amount is going to be like 30-50% less than it was a few years ago.

I have ALLSTATE insurance in SC on a 2500 sq. ft. house and a maximum $5000 deductible and I was paying $95 a month and now they raised it to $105 a month and I'm going to look elsewhere. My car insurance is also way too high at $70 per month just a basic insurance. State Farm was a bit less, but it was a lot of trouble dealing with their neglect and errors/mistakes. It looks as if the new generation is becoming more careless, lazy and greedy.

Firemans Fund charges me $2,500 a year for a $700,000 house with $2,500 deduct and 1% hurricane deduct.

Major problem with them is they raise the price of the house each year and the house would prob. only sell for $550,000 in 2011.

They say; oh but material and labor to rebuild have gone up; right.

I say how about the lot? It will still be there and they have another answer for that.

I have shopped around and I want a co. that has been around and has assets to back it up.

Beware; some co's. I found from friends have been in business 3-5 years. What happens if they get too many claims? Will they just fold and run and you are left out to hang?

Like the OP said; cheap is not better.

Many good answers in this thread. There really is no average because you can have two homes right next door to each other with roughly the same market value as far as purchase price, but one home could cost double to insure because it is older. In general, the closer the home is to meeting the current building code (newer home) the less it will cost to insure. Because of construction, flood, sinkhole, etc. always get quotes from insurance companies (not the seller or agent's guesstimate) before you sign anything or put money down.

Try Mercury Insurance if you have good credit.

I have a 2010 Acura TL SH, and a 2011 Honda Civic EX and we pay $130 a month with full coverage including uninsured motorist and $500 deduc. Both in Mid 30's and live in 32828 with 0 tickets or points.

As far as home owners insurance, 3/2.5 1800 sq feet, $700 per yr.

I had Allstate in the past and while they give you a great rate the initial year they slow roll you and jack the rate up 20% each year.
