Okay so right now My fiance and I are considering moving to Florida from Chicago... Our taxes here are high and rent is through the roof for ****ty apartments... Possibly Orlando... I have done much research and have been looking at the Job market in Florida and trying to see which areas are best... I am currently a bartender and Physical trainer.. So how is it though?? We drove through Orlando last year and it seemed nice but we didnt really look around.. Is it ghetto?? What are bad and good areas... I need the scoop about everything... we are going to be driving down to Miami for Vacation in March and will be stopping in again..

I am currently reading Florida as #4 in Unemployment with Illinois Slightly behind... Is it getting better out there??? Bugs and Humidity we can deal with...
Are there nice neighborhoods?

WE were also considering moving to Colorado...

Two standard disclaimer type pieces of advice off the bat...

1. You will probably get some disgruntled Floridians or former Floridians telling you how terrible the state (or at least the Orlando area) is. Some of the things they're probably right about but on the other hand keep in mind that some people are just going to be disgruntled no matter where they are.

2. In opposition to #1, living in Florida is not like vacationing in Florida. The area has all the positives and negatives that other metro areas experience.

-In general, housing costs and taxes are lower, but keep in mind that wages also tend to be lower so that kind of offsets the benefit of those lower costs.
-Unemployment is a definite problem here but it's such a big area that there are people getting jobs everyday (and people losing jobs everyday). You might come down and have something lined up in a week or you might go months without finding anything. I don't have any specific knowledge of the market for bartenders or physical trainers so I can't give you specific advice there.
-Like any big metro area, there are literally hundreds of 'good' areas and hundreds of 'bad' areas. The two most notorious bad ones are Pine Hills and Parramore. Are you looking for areas close to the downtown Orlando nightlife, a quieter place in the suburbs, an area with a small-town feel, somewhere close to Disney?

I think you should look at Texas. The job situation is much better there.

Eh... I'd go with Colorado. Nicer views, not so transient, and I know you say "humidity we can deal with," but wait til you live in it for 6 months straight...it's unbearable at times.
