Never seen a rattlesnake other than a cute garden snake my whole life in northern Oregon.

There are no poisonous snakes -- only venomous and non-venomous.

Oh crap, really? So after all of these years in Texas, I might actually have to deal with rattlers in OREGON? Sigh ...

At times I see non poisonous grass snakes & water snakes around my bass pond. On my place here on the mountain, I've never seen a Pacific Rattlesnake. There could be a few

In 28 years I've seen two Pacific Rattlesnakes in Oregon. Watch where you walk. Carry a walking stick. you can gently coax a snake to move along. Usually they move on their own. Bites usually occur when someone steps on the snake.

Out by Bly and Bonanza? Yes, very occasionally, particularly in rocky places. Although the difference between Texas and Oregon is that the Oregon does NOT have coral snakes, copperheads or water moccasins.

I'd think the birds of prey would take care of them. Not to jinx it, but out where I live in Texas, the Great Horned Owls seem to keep down the rattlesnake population. I haven't seen any in 7 years and I hear the owls' distinctive hoot at night.

Perhaps its because I hike mostly in Central Oregon, but the idea that rattlesnakes sightings are rare in OR makes no sense to me. I nearly stepped on this guy out at Smith Rock where they are common enough to warrant warning signs! And he didn't make a sound to let me know he was there, just a few feet from the main trail.
