I have anaphylaxis at random. It’s a rare condition called MCAS. There are no known triggers, it just happens whenever. That being said I looked for the hospital in Cannon Beach, and it appears the closest help is Seaside. Is this true? Any other options?

Most of the coast towns aren't big enough to support a hospital. There are hospitals in Astoria and Seaside and then Manzanita has an urgent care. I think Seaside is closer than Manzanita though.

Are you wanting to visit or live there? They have medical clinics in town so I would think they could carry meds you would need in an emergency.

Correct the hospitals are nine miles North in Seaside and 40 miles South in Tillamook. If you have a condition that might require you to have hospital care that can't wait 20 or 30 minutes, Cannon Beach is probably not a good place for you. Maybe you should be looking at Portland, Eugene, or Medford.

Do you actually need a full blown hospital? Or do you just need access to epinephrine and antihistimines like someone nearby with an epipen?

If you possibly need paramedic care then you should be looking at where the closest ambulances are located which are probably Astoria and Seaside.

Are just visiting, or do you plan to live there?

Cannon Beach is a very small touristy town, I doubt that they even have an emergency care facility.

Cannon Beach does seem to have a small family practice.
Maybe call them to get better info or advice on your situation?

It looks like the Cannon Beach Rural Fire Protection District provides EMS services like that. But if the OP is that worried about it, I really think they should just move closer to a major trauma center.

Rural areas are wonderful. But not if you spend all your time worrying you are going to die before you can get to medical facilities.

The issue would be off-hour coverage and the speed of EMTs. The OP likely has epinephrine on hand - assuming that the Epipens aren't sold out where the OP is presently. Start of the school year means they are in short supply in a lot of places.

I'd prefer Cannon Beach to Seaside, too, but if I were worried about anaphylaxis, I'd relocate somewhere near a 24/7 emergency room and good EMT coverage.

It doesn't have to be a major trauma hospital (Coos Bay has the highest level trauma care on the coast, Level 3, the Level 2s are in Portland, Salem, Eugene, Medford and Bend, the only Level 1s are in Portland) but it has to be something open all hours.

Good point. 24/7 would be important. I assume the OP uses an epipen to tide them over until they can get to a hospital.

If OP likes a nice beach location.... Newport or Lincoln City have nice coastal areas + hospitals. If critical care is vital.... They are too fragile for a rural location.

BTDT with too many rural elderly. Can only afford to cry Wolf, so many times. Lifeflight has far greater needs to be covering, And a Lifeflight membership will be of no benefit if the EMS determines you go via land. You can't over-ride thier medical decision and got a Lifeflight ride.

If it were me, I would call the hospital in Seaside and ask what my options were.

Providence Seaside Hospital
725 S. Wahanna Road
Seaside, OR 97138
Phone 503-717-7000

https://oregon.providence.org/locati...side-hospital/

That's the closest hospital to Cannon Beach.
10 to 20 minutes away on a good day, one way, if someone were driving you there directly.

That would end all assumptions and speculation.

(I hope google isn't broken?)
