Any words of wisdom about Mill City up toward Detroit? I have driven around there and am scheduled to look at a couple of houses for sale there next week. I like small quiet communities away from cities and close to outdoor recreation. Anything I should be aware of?

Thanks,
Heidi

Okay guys, I REALLY would appreciate help here - getting no answers. I spent an afternoon looking through Mill City and liked it. However, I have a friend who has professional contact with inmates, and his comment to me was "even my inmates tell me they won't live there."

Anyone????????

Mill City is a logging town of 1.500 residents or so. You might find answers to some of your questions here:

If you are looking for a small and quiet logging town, Mill City should be a dream come true. Please report back to let us know how your visit goes?

Great town but fighting like many small towns to keep alive. Grew up there and still have family and property there. It has its problems because of the economy but has lots of great assets.

The weather is a little nastier than Salem's.

2 posts in 2006. It looks like maybe it didn't work out for her.

I like the area just fine. I would be back off the highway if I decided to live there. There's not much option for shopping, but there is lots of fishing and hiking and Detroit Lake is close for boating. It's an easy day trip to HooDoo for skiing. I would expect real estate to be on the less expensive side, but I haven't ever looked at house prices.
