Oregon has to hold on to any kind of job it can, even if it is an attendent pumping gas.

Oregon is a nice state but this law is ridiculous. Banning someone from pumping their own gas is worse than prohibition. This is a free country and as such, you should be able to pump your own gas if you desire. I dont get how anyone could be in favor of this law. For the people that want full service they can still get it, they dont have to ruin it for the rest of us.

Oh yeah, what a tragedy not being able to pump your own gas. I would give anything to have a full service station where I live in Wyoming. When the wind is howling and it's 10 degrees out, I'd pay good money to have someone else do that for me.

You've all given me one more great reason to move to Oregon!!

Tell you guys what.. I have a pretty nicely restored Buick Wildcat..... and I'm glad I live in NY. I don't want some moron fueling my car for me. I'll do it myself. I don't appreciate gas dripping down the side of my car and fingerprints near the gas-flap.

Imagine all the poor classic corvette owners too... cars made out of fiberglass, but the gas-lid is on the rear-deck of the car... any spill and you got yourself a beautiful stain and it flows all over the rear of the vehicle.

No thanks. I'll do it myself.

LOL, I did find Full Serve to be fun tho.. I had a 71 Buick Riviera.. check out where the gas tank door is on that. In the lower bumper.. you have to actually take a knee to fill it up. LOL. I had one gas station attendant demand I get out and fill it myself. (He was like 80 yrs old so... I obliged.. but.. it was funny otherwise)

No, because this is an (almost) uniquely Oregon thing. New Jersey is the other state with good sense. We don't change this law, and don't have a sales tax, because Oregonians are communitarians. And that's not a bad thing. Here in Portland, you can always drive over to Vancouver if you're really dying to save thirty seconds. But you'll pay more for the privelege, since they have a higher gas tax.

Oh, one last - stolen from the New Englanders: "We ain't quaint."

Another "I moved to Oregon and I want to change things here to like how they were where I came from because Oregonians are backwards" thread.

There are *some things* that are distinctly Oregon. This is one of them. And if we didn't like it, you can bet that we would vote to pump our own gas.

I love being over in Vancouver, Washington just for the simple fact that I can pump my own gas. Sometimes I will drive over there just to do that. I've given up trying to reason with people who grew up in Oregon and have never lived anywhere else. It reminds me of trying to reason with people who have never left Kentucky.
