Someone mentioned Mt Bachelor and Mt Ashland. Both good choices. I know of lots of DH specific races races at Ashland. Plus the southern Rogue Valley has a smaller feel than Bend which might appeal to you more.

I live in Bend and am an epic mountainbiker. Bend is no good for downhill riding! Trails are long and smooth with lots of climbing, flowy descents, and a few man made features. The downhillers I've met talk about good riding near Mt. Hood and The Dalles. Don't know any specifics, though. Check out the Oregon forum at Mountain bike product reviews forums classifieds trails and you can ask where Oregon downhillers go.......

This is true. Along with our Mt. Bachelor Skiing. Both our Mnt. Biking and Skiing could use a little more vertical, which won't ever happen on the skiing side of things, but I know Mt. Bachelor is in the process of converting MUCH of the mountain to epic downhills in their new master plan. Just a matter of time....

After all, the Bend area is still in its adolescence in regard trails and trail making. It's still a very new and very much untouched area in relative terms.

The Mt Hood ski areas in the off-season, particularly Skibowl. The OP might look up some of the Oregon-specific mountain bike books or join trails.com, which provides on-line access to most of the hiking, biking and ORV trails and camping in Oregon (and the rest of the country, it's not one-state specific)
