Uhhh if you go to eastern Oregon you have to watch out for the Jackalope...their horns will puncture tires and your left out in the hi plains all alone with no help for hundreds of miles

Default Outdoor Cat

I'm preparing to move to the Willamette valley here in the next year. After watching a show on Animal Planet, my wife started to worry about our indoor/outdoor cat. We live in Ohio now and he comes home pretty beat up sometimes and that's just with other cats in the area. So my question is, with bears, bobcats and mountain lions living in the area, how in danger is our scrappy little cat?

Hmmm...sasquatch? Some websites would have you believe they're everywhere. Anyone here ever seen one?

Django1200,
what part of the WValley are you moving to? How far out/remote are you getting?
Most kitties survive just fine out here. None of mine ever suffered any wild animal fates. Ive only known one person to lose their kitty to a wild animal. That was when we lived WAY out in the boonies, and they let their kitten outside in the evening....it was not match for a huge old owl (that they KNEW!!! lived nearby..sigh) and he picked kitty up, and that was the end of the poor kitten

Now as for some wild animal troubles, I just read yesterday that between Florence and Yachats, theyve had to dispose of 6 bear in the last 2weeks. Pretty unusually high numbers there. My inlaws live in Dune City, just out of Florence, and they actually caught bear in their garbage when they first moved there. Now they have better garbage disposal! lol

Lost a kitten and a bunny to a hungry hawk, watched both outside our window.

I guess the hawk didnt' know the difference between wild and domesticated.

Lots of friendly "foster" cats wandering around. When I lived in NY, there were lots of stray cats there, too, but they were all unfriendly, sick, and scraggly. In NM, no cats--not an environment where they can survive as strays. Up here, though, I can't take a walk without seeing at least 3 cats, and most of them are friendly and healthy. This feels like a very cat-friendly state; it seems a lot of people feed and care for wandering cats.

OH, and let's not forget about the NUTRIA!

The other day I spoke to a neighbor while taking a walk; he says the nutria in a stream that goes through his backyard keep attacking his cats, sending them to the vet with near fatal wounds.
