I moved to Grants Pass 1.5 years ago. The first winter was dreary: overcast, foggy, and very wet, with only a few inches of snow. The 2nd winter was colder, drier, and sunnier, with more snow than the first. So, obviously the winters are not the same every year. My first summer was hot, dry, and sunny. My 2nd summer has so far been cooler than the first and sunny. But as for the rest of this summer, I won't know as I'm moving out of the area. Grants Pass has four distinct seasons with spring and fall being my favorite. Also, my first summer here was more uncomfortable than the six I spent in AZ. Go figure.

The best I am able to explain our weather is a true 4 seasons......there are some yrs that are pretty strange, where any of those seasons can reflect their extremes, but for the consistent years a true 4 seasons.

Coming from So. Cal. and having 1 1/2 seasons, I prefer the 4 anyday. The variety and sometimes unpredictable nature keeps you on your toes. I take it as a great adventure and challenge when the weather catches me off guard.

Thanks, I've been on the southern OR coast and love it. I'm curious though, are there any jobs to speak of in these areas you mention? I don't really care about pay, but I do care about benefits. Thanks.

Oh, BTW, are there any single people there? One thing I don't like about my neighborhood is I'm the only single person without children, so I'd be looking to make some friends. I don't go to bars or churches, but coffee houses and other things would be great.

Do you like it there? Happy you moved? Where did you live in AZ? Ok, I'll stop asking so many questions

One more - how come your first summer was worse than that in AZ?

Many coffee houses, and as to singles, it seems there are some, maybe the normal averages (just guessing). Being married for so long and not looking about, I think people get together and find each other.
Jobs are always available to suitable workers. "suitable" meaning the right fit for the work, good work ethic, not a downer personality, willing to make money for the boss as if it were there business. Plenty of opportunity for the ones that will apply themselves. As to benefits? I'm sure some of the larger companys offer them after a probation period.

Movin, sounds like you'd be a good candidate for Ashland. Lots of sunshine and 'just enough' rain. Liberal social scene. There are many retirees but as it's a college town there are also many younger people around. I don't know much about the job scene but everything else here is very good.

Wowee, you all have such great ideas! I sure wish I didn't have two pets at this moment, but they are my kids. Hmmm, I guess I can just hire someone for a while and mosey up that way. There is so much to see!

When I first moved to SF I was just overwhelmed with all the choices in terms of all the cities. I finally learned my way around. Really, all I have to do is to check out OR and WA and then do my research in advance. I'll check out that rain map too!

What an adventure

Wow! Where do I start? We don't hate living in Tucson but really need to return to the 'seasons' and get away from these long hot summers. As you know the crime here is getting out of control and getting around town takes so much longer than when we first moved here, that's what happens with over 1M people. We have two small dogs and as we live next to Tucson Mountain Park everything from Bob Cat's and Coyote's to Rattler's come through our yard (I forgot the Scorps) so we have to on guard all of the time. I know there is no perfect place to live...ok maybe Santa Barbara is nearly there, but I guess we will have to decide between bright sunny days with the heat and lack of rain or darker skies and a more active outdoor life during the summer. Does anyone know a good webcam in Salem that gives a good view of the sky? Arizona Webcam is a good one for Tucson.

Oregon sunshine. There are basically three tiers. Bottom tier is Portland, Salem, Eugene. Middle tier is Medford and Klamath Falls. Top tier is Eastern Oregon, including Bend, Burns, Pendleton, and LaGrande. But except for Bend, nobody apparently wants to live in the other cities mentioned.

What is this thing you call sunshine? HA HA. Yes there is sun in Oregon, we do have a summer, and we do see the sun. Yes, there is a lot of rain here, but you get used to it. I moved from Eastern Oregon to Western Oregon and I would much rather have the rain than the wind almost every day of the year!
