Hello, I am going to be a junior in high school this fall. I have gone to a private high school for my first two years, but am looking to transfer to a public high school for my last two years. I want to go to Villa Park High School, but I live in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District area. How do I get released by them so that I am allowed to attend VPHS? And then how do I get the Orange Unified School District to accept me into their district? Which one is harder to get done (released or accepted)? Thank you in advance.

I don't have personal experience with either of those districts so I don't know how much help I'll be. But I'm sure you'll have to start with your home district and get approval for the release first, and I'll go out on a limb and say that could be tough. I don't know of any CA district that wants to lose funding right now.

Are there any programs offered at your school of choice that aren't offered in your district? That's about the only way to get an inter-district transfer around here.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

I was in the Fullerton district and wanted to go to Brea. I needed to apply with Brea for an inter-district transfer. As long as Brea had room and I didn't have a history of trouble making it wasn't a problem. The Fullerton district did not factor into it in any way. This is how it worked back in '95 anyway!
