I have a bunch of clothes I'd like to donate to someplace in the OC that will give them to someone that needs them, not sell them and use the money for some other program.

Any ideas?

What difference does it make if they give to the needy or sell it so they can buy other stuff for the needy?

I’m not sure why it would make a difference, but maybe you could contact a few homeless shelters to see if they could use the clothing. One potential problem for organizations accepting and distributing used clothing, is that it takes-up valuable space. I find it convenient to just drive over to Goodwill and drop-off things I no longer need.

I’m glad that they can resell them to help fund programs.

The only real way to assure it gets into someone's hands is to donate it directly to those in need. Many organizations do the resale route because their causes need the money, not the material.

BTW, unsold clothing ends up wholesaled to a raghouse.

Even if you were to make a direct donation to someone in need, there’s no guarantee that the items won’t be bartered for food, drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes.
Someone can even “repurpose” an expensive piece of clothing to provide insulation for a makeshift shelter, or stuffing for a pillow.

After my wife died, I donated most of her clothes to the OC Rescue Mission in Tustin.

The Orange County Rescue Mission

PS, I didn't know Charles at that time...

If they are clothes that could fit a child or adolescent, consider donating to group homes in the area.
