Omaha seems to have good paying jobs with a reasonable cost of living. How common are single income households? where their standard of living is high to modertate. Is Omaha the place to be if you are educated and want to raise a family?

Mine is a one income home and I know many other one income families... From a total perspective Omaha is a very reasonable cost of living. Taxes are higher, but that tends to be offset when you look at the total economic picture for your family. Omaha is highly educated, lots of additional education opportunities and a great place to raise a family.

Ya the schools are some of the best in the country and we have plenty of family attractions. The job market is great and our downtown is experiencing a construction boom too.

Mine is a one-income family. I'd guess it depends on what the one-income is. I'm in IT, and make decent money...but it's not like I make six figures or anything.

When I first moved to Omaha (CB) (when I was 18) my wife was still in HS and her mother let her stay with me while she was a junior and senior... So I pretty much was taking care of both of us with my one income and it wasn't bad at all...

I was able to pay all the bills, take 2 classes a quarter @ Metro, and still manage to save up to $5,000 in the few years that I was there...

PS: if you are thinking of calling John Bruning on us, we didn't do anything until she was 17!

^^^^^^^^^This is a joke in reference to what he did to those 2 kids who got married in Kansas!

She was really 17 though, and besides we were in CB, IA, outside of Mr. Bruning's jurisdiction!
