My husband is getting transferred to OKC. We are originally from Houston, but have lived in Dallas about a year. Online I have found some pretty Historic Homes in Mesta Park, Crown Heights, Lincoln Terrace, Edgemere, etc. Are these areas safe? We have always lived in the suburbs, but we are a little tired of the cookie cutter homes. My concern is crime and safety in these areas. Who primarily lives in these homes, older people? We are 38 and 42 with no kids. Also I heard the east side is sort of gettoish. I love the homes in Lincoln Terrace by the Capital. Is this a bad area? Thanks for any information.

Hi housewife

I like Mesta Park, Crown Heights, Edgemere, and Heritage Hills. All are safe. The homes are very pretty and well kept. Many professionals, such as lawyers, live in these areas convenient to downtown. The children attend private schools. There are some older people, but it is not all older people. You would be about average age there. I would pick Crown Heights as the most safe and crime free, and for the most neighborhood feeling. I would feel a little isolated in Lincoln Terrace. Doctors who work at the OU Medical complex live there, maybe some legislators, but you are far from any grocery stores etc. Just my 2 cents.

OKC is blessed to have so many historic areas...This is actually do to the sprawl of the city. Many cities destroy old homes to make way for new ones near the hot spots of a city. Ironic how OKCs decline from the 60s to late 80s
actually helped keep these historic parts from being demolished. Now OKCITIANS are investing back into these older areas to be near all the urban revival that is extremely hard if not impossible to ignore. Looking for homes in the OKC area makes one become very familiar with these parts.
