Can someone tell me which high school is considered the best academically, sports, etc. Detail out a bit. Trying to decide where to purchase a home in Edmond based on school. Thanks so much.

I hear Deer creek is nice, though I hardly know anything about the area.

Here's a link to "report cards" on the three Edmond District High Schools

Directory of Schools

I always was under the impression North was the best of the three, but how or why I came to that conclusion I really can't tell you.

We chose the North district because they were supposed to be the best academically. Memorial was suppose to have the best fine arts dept, and Santa Fe was suppose to the school for athletics. We were very happy with our choice. Our kids were in high school when we moved here. I felt like they got a good education. They were both in several AP classes and they served them well. Oldest was able to place out of 17 college hours. Youngest was able to place out of 12. They aren't book worm types or anything. They weren't top of their classes or even top 10%, but they did well, and it is serving them well now that they are in college.

All I know about Deer Creek is that it is much smaller, and we were told that it was very cliquish and unwelcoming of outsiders. Most of the kids there had been in school together since kindergarten, and they weren't really interested in new friends. Our kids were coming out of a very large high school in suburban Houston, and we were looking for some place that would feel more like what they were accustomed to.

I agree with Debz that each Edmond school has its own strengths and I don't really think you can go wrong.

Well, it is not that much smaller anymore. You kind of have to get used to outsiders when your school goes from 50-60 students in each graduating class to 300 per class in just over a decade. I have heard they no longer have graduating classes of less than 300. I attended K-12 and when I graduated in 07 it was with 180 people. There is bound to be resentment when a very old farming community gets destroyed by McMansions, golf courses, cookie cutter homes, and fancy SUVs cropping up everywhere and the school has to keep expanding (literally adding whole buildings and new schools almost every year) to accommodate everyone, and the roads are continually destroyed by construction equipment.

Unfortunately Deer Creek is unincorporated and therefore has absolutely no local control over the quality, quantity, or character of its growth.

My son graduated from North in 08. The high school he moved from was about 2,800 students, so going to Deer Creek would have been more than a little bit of a change. I think his graduating class at North was close to 500.
