Unfortunately, it sounds like you have a neighbor who is against the change. I don't know the process at all, but I guess if even one neighbor objects, the city's hands might be tied. But again, I don't really know. Is this what you've been told?

we aren't finished yet... as long as we have support, we will continue forward. We should be given the opportunity to have our day infront of City Hall... Given the chance to throw the plan on the table, and to answer the questions relating to what if animals get out, what about manure / flies, what we have planned to do in situations and not just ASSUME! If anyone has any doubts, I am a certified through FEMA (FEDERAL EMERGENCY) for both large and small animals in disasters. I've taken the courses, passed all of the schooling, put in the hours and I'm Federally certified. If we have a flood, tornado, whatever, they will be calling on me to help the other farmers in the area. I have animal experience, over 30 years worth, and I'm not on just some wild idea of "lets start a backyard farm" and drop it in a few months.... Question though: If Y-Town adopted this 2010 Plan and the Grey to Green idea, (which the big event on that is Sept I think).... shouldn't people be asking why the town would refuse a plan of Agriculture / Green, when that was the whole idea of the 2010 plan??? Whoever is funding the 2010 plan may need to be made aware of what's going on! Any idea who funded the 2010 plan? Does it involve grants or anything???? Just my thought for the night!

From what you've said above, It sounds like the city is OK with what you want to do. But, you have a neighbor who is opposed.

The city is funding the 2010 plan. I think I remember being told, at a neighborhood planning meeting, that the city has pledged over $100 million over the next 10 years to do various 2010 related projects. But, there are over 130 "neighborhoods" that the money will be distributed to. Also, because the 2010 plan is in place, it's easier to get grants for other projects from various sources. (My neighborhood--Youngstown 2010 - Neighborhoods - Garden District--is trying to get a grant from the Wean Foundation for various projects. This money wouldn't be available if the plan wasn't in place.)

However, the plan mostly has to do with ideas, and giving the city a direction to take future development. (And I think what you want to do certainly fits.)

Some more advice from some people I asked:

Can you have some of the people you talked to, like neighbors or the people you talked to from Grow Youngstown, who are supportive of what you want to do, send letters to your councilperson, Mr. Kitchen?

Or, can you take some of these supporters to your hearing at city hall?
