This is another example of most of the Ohio conservative state house members not knowing how to deal with an L. A lot of them thought that the majority was die-hard conservative or MAGA like them that it would fail; this another "party over people" play here. Dewine and the state house Republicans want to prove to their base how MAGA or conservative they are to show that they're tough on drugs. Even though, a lot Ohioans, who mostly vote Republican, voted for Issue 2 in strong numbers because they wanted to grow it in their own homes. If these proposals go through, they don't realize that they would alienate their own base in the name of party.

Some people just can’t handle the fact that marijuana causes less harm than alcohol.

I don’t know about “gutted”…latest Senate-approved bill looks pretty reasonable to me.

<Homegrown marijuana will be allowed at six plants per household, down from Issue 2 levels of 12 per household.

Possession limits that were originally spelled out in Issue 2 will not be changed: 2.5 ounces for plants and 15 grams extracts.

THC content limit for plant material will return to Issue 2 level of 35%.

Anyone 21 years of age or older can purchase at current marijuana dispensaries once bill takes effect. Issue 2 did not allow existing dispensaries to start selling until nine months after the law takes effect.

Automatic expungements for any conviction involving 2.5 ounces and below upon application to court.

Proceeds from recreational pot sales will be used for legal representation for those people seeking expungements.

Increase the approved tax on sale of marijuana products from 10% to 15%, but remove the proposed 15% extra tax on cultivators.>

If that language sticks, those are pretty user-friendly terms IMO.

As I recall when this passed in uber-liberal Oregon, the grow limit was 4 plants and the tax was higher. It may have changed since then, I dunno.

We’ll see what passes the House.

Preposterous. Not only are Ohio Republicans knuckle-dragging cavemen, they're also corrupt (can you say Larry Householder?). It is preposterous these clowns are literally contradicting the will of the people. They should be taken to court.

Curious as to what your quibble is…12 plants vs 6?

CA, OR, and CO all have 4 or 6 plant grow limits, with pot taxes ranging from 15% to 17%.

OH Senate bill includes 6 plant limit with 15% tax.

No human being I know consumes 12 mature plants. You get in the business of trafficking at that stage.

I think OH is proposing a very reasonable (if not generous) set of terms, if that’s indeed the version that sticks.

Their own base is too stupid to vote them out and they know it...even though they would be better off if the Democrats controlled things...Population growth has fallen further and further behind the nations population growth because of their leadership.

100%

Between November 7th to December 8th, the way that the Ohio Republicans have tried to tweak what the voters (by a large margin) voted for teeters on abuse of power. End of story.

I don't think that having Democrats in charge at the state level would have done ANYTHING to prevent the population stagnation and decline that has plagued Ohio for the past 45 years. Rather, it is mostly attributable to two things... (1) A severe decline in the need for "smokestack industries", thus a loss of jobs, and (2) a slow but steady decline in the birth rate.

Both of these factors have contributed to Ohio's population decline over the past 45 years. Other "rust-belt" areas have experienced similar population declines.
