We just picked up a couple of monthly passes for the Cavs. These are a huge steal. If you make it to all the games tickets come out to less than $10 dollars per ticket.

It's due to the Akron area having it's own small, but existing media market, high school conferences and other amentites that suburs or satellite cities dont' have. Akron General and likely other Greater Akron hospitals/clinics (I didn't check) are part of the Cleveland Clinic. This an excellent situation IMO, as it provides economies of scale and high standards of medical excellence.

Specialties and procedures offered at each hospital also must be considered.

Likely Akron General as a result of its CC affiliation is a magnet for patients from areas south and east of Akron that are further from the CC main campus.

Just saying that identity of Akron was forged before 2015 when the Clinic took over General not to mention Summa and Children's are bigger systems in the Akron area. No one in Akron is viewing or referring to "General" as Cleveland Clinic Akron General in everyday speech. I do agree that partnerships and collaberations are the way forward. Such as those that exists between Akron Childrens and CC Children's.

I agree with your argument that Akron has a separate identity from Cleveland. As you said, there is much to be gained by collaboration, as with Minnesota's Twin Cities. Perhaps the best example of this is the existence of Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Towpath Trail.

Here's another example that I just saw in the Akron/Canton forum. WKSU and Cleveland's Ideastream Public Media are merging to benefit from economies of scale.

<<“Currently both Ideastream Public Media and WKSU allocate significant resources to deliver the same nationally syndicated programs to the same population often at the exact same time,” WKSU Executive Director and General Manager Wendy Turner told the board. “Nearly 90 percent of our news and information programming is duplicative, [and] our broadcast transmission is overlapping 96 percent of our geography.”>>
