I wonder how much of this is based on the 2 story towns with redneck haters though? I don’t really ever go to those places.

As soon as I read "Southern Poverty Law Center" it lost all credibility.

Agreed, they're just an advocacy group. Pay them no mind.

Most Ohioans that I know are not hateful nor do they commit hate crimes. They are nice, friendly people just trying to get along in life. I think where the so called hate crimes come in is those drinking heavily or drugging heavily and committing crimes--I would say their state of mind is more obscured and confused.

You can boil this thread down to two common positions:

1. Ohio is not that bad. These types of polls are based on dubious methodology.

2. It's Black people's fault!

I hate to generalize but I think a couple of posters on C-D that are or apparently are based on their user names write some of the most hateful posts on City Data, imo. They make me embarrassed to think that my home state might be the same as theirs.

However, I haven't even spent more than a week in Ohio since 1973, so my opinion about "hateful" Ohio is not even worth two cents!

The poster was being sarcastic.

Any clown who would rate us as a "hateful" state clearly hasn't spent any time here. Not even worth anyone's time. Funny how this happens to come out as this state is more solidly red than it has been in my lifetime.
Nowhere is perfect. The people who complain constantly about Ohio strike me as people who wouldn't be happy anywhere outside of New York City or San Francisco, yet they manage to stay. Guess we're not so bad after all.
I'm proud to be from Ohio and plan to live the rest of my life here. Two years living elsewhere in Texas was enough to convince me this is where I belong and I'm happiest.

Nashville and it's suburbs are pretty diverse (except for Williamson County) and the racial harmony there is really good. The guy who blew himself up on 2nd Ave in Nashville reportedly was a nut-job but not a right-wing nut-job. He actually lived near Antioch which is VERY diverse.

The bartender and his mother who were reported as being "from Tennessee" that were prominent in the January 6th seditious insurrection were actually from Texas and hadn't lived in TN all that long.

I know hate exists all over and much of it is trump inspired but that particular "study" doesn't seem accurate.

A nauseating lie about our past president created by left wing media types who are actually the ones spewing hate.
