Hello,
I am from SE Ohio; however, I am currently living out of state. My husband and I would like to move closer to family, but we do not want to move there. There is nothing there. What places can you think of that are within a few hours from eastern/south eastern Ohio that would be good places for employment and raising children. I currently can't think of one place.

Not sure where exactly in SE Ohio you’re looking to be within a few hours of but some of the below cities are within a few hours drive and are attractive places to raise a family with many amenities and decent job opportunities.

Columbus, Ohio
Cincinnati, Ohio
Lexington, Kentucky
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

That's a pretty big area to cover. Like the above poster I think of Pittsburgh, PA and Columbus, Ohio. The Charleston, WVA metro area might be worth researching.

Your needs are pretty vague so if you could be more specific in your expectations it might help with recommendations.

Sorry for the vague question. Basically anywhere is OH, western PA, or eastern IN. I'm a teacher. My husband works in the IT field, so we need an area that has a lot of IT jobs. We currently live 10 hours away. Anywhere bordering Ohio would much better. The reason I am asking is because I feel like most places around Ohio have major drug issues and high levels of unemployment. I'm from Zanesville. The drug issue is horrible, and there are no jobs. It's an extremely depressing place. If you can think of any cities that are moving in a positive direction and aren't dying economically, I will research them. We have been looking at Dayton, but the drug, crime, and unemployment issues seem very bad.

I live in Dayton. Dayton does have its share of meth heads and heroin addicts; drugs are bad in parts of Dayton and not in others. Dayton has a lot of service industry jobs, so it has been pretty hard hit. The Dayton metro area also has a lot of good suburbs, as well as a lot of universities, government and government contractor jobs. Dayton proper does seem to have more than its share of thieves.

If you are from Zanesville, why Dayton over Columbus?

Haha! I want to be close, but not too close, lol. Also, my husband is interested in starting at Wright Patterson since he has active duty and gov contractor experience.
