Is Alachua or Gainesville safer? Or are they about the same?

As far as crime. I mean Alachua city limits vs Gainesville.

I think rather than trying to compare the city of Alachua with Gainesville, you’d be better off looking at the crime rate of neighborhoods. Overall, the entire county has a higher than average crime rate compared to the rest of the state, and that is primarily due to the University of Florida. Unfortunately, college campuses, and the neighborhoods near them, attract all sorts of criminals.

I would suspect that because UF skews Gainesville’s numbers higher, that Alachua would have a lower crime rate overall. However, I live in unincorporated Gainesville, on the SW side, which has a low crime rate. Generally, the western side of the city is considered safer than the eastern half, but there are neighborhoods on each half that are exceptions.

Edit: turns out I’m correct, at least according to City-Data. Here is a link to some crime stats:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...rh8472S7BhwJA9

If you reduce the size of the map, you’ll see several area to the west with no data (mostly to the west of I75) and those sections represent unincorporated Gainesville and Newberry.

Not sure if people know this but City-Data isn't just a forum. It's an actual data center for - data. About cities. You can use it to look up crime statistics. From here, you can simply click on the "City-Data" logo on the upper left of this webpage, and it'll take you to the main menu. You can type in any city or town into the buffer and it'll give you everything it has available, which can be significant.
