I was wondering if anyone here has recently been stationed at Schofield or is stationed there now. We are moving there in February and we are trying to decide whether to live on post or off. I am pushing for onpost because this is my first time living the military life. (We are getting married Jan. 2) My soon to be husband thinks we can save some of the BAH by living off post. I think we would save money living on post and it would make our socialization and my newly acquired life a little bit easier. Any advice or previous experience is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so much!

I spent a total of twelve years at Schofield Barracks. I loved it! If you can live on post, you should. I'm not sure what the housing situation is now...it's been years since we were stationed there. But off post housing is insanely expensive.

You would definitely save money living on post. You won't have the gas or wear and tear on your car. You'll be right near the PX and Commissary. And I think you'll feel more a part of the community.

I lived on Schofield as both a dependent daughter and a dependent wife. I loved everything about ti!

My vote would be to stay on base.

I vote for staying on Post as well .

I was stationed there and loved every day of that part of my tour of duty. Off post you'll find that it is extremely expensive, not to forget the cost of travel back and forth from home to the post. Scholfield has everything you need or want right there, ie. the main exchange, theatre, sports and the list goes on.

Take advantage of everything Hawaii has to offer, it will last you a lifetime .
