Pretty reasonable prices for Honolulu as well.

If you visit yelp, be sure to look at where the poster is from. When you're on vacation and you want every meal to be special, you have to guard against all the locals raving about zippys or the like.
and @Whtviper1

Hmmm all the locals raving about Zippys or such? Maybe theres something about Zippys that isn't obvious?

Well - if you actually took the time to read my post - I noted Zippy's isn't rated terribly high especially compared to other restaurants. Raving? I don't think so.

Let's not kid ourselves - poor person food for those who can't afford anything decent.

Zippys sucks now. La Mariana is the last original Tiki Bar, went their in the 70s and last year. The food is ok, location is cool an oasis in the middle of an industrial area. New cooks and management. Renovated too. I enjoy it but most people go to Nico's at Pier 38. now a days. You'll like the ambiance of La Mariana! Good luck.

I'll never get why it's "popular."

Poor? Have you seen their prices?!! It's ridiculous. Had to meet someone at one to sign papers and I couldn't find anything I would eat.

Thanks for the tip about Arnold's as well. It's close to our hotel! I'm thinking we'll do La Mariana one night for drinks/dinner and Arnold's during the day. I'm really excited!

Its one of those 101 things different about hawaii things. Zippys is a community, gathering place that we locals hangout at. We are kinda different in that way, we get sentimentally attached to places. Its been like that since forever. We value things not so much for there value or practical use but by the feelings we had experiencing them. Thats why the past and stuff like drive ins, old hawaii is important to us. If we could find the same feelings from the experience of Chillis, Sharis or Other big things there would be no reason to hold on to experiences of the past.

Anyway im not saying you don't know that Mikala43 because you have been on the island a long time. Maybe someone new might be interested in knowing?

Well Arnolds is not for dinner but I'd at least go for Happy Hour music and maybe hit it late nite for the vibe. Might get lucky and see some musicians jamming impromptu.
