Normie! SOOOOO happy to hear your news! Congratulations!

I hope someone comes along and tells us the name of the burger joint. It's so hard to find a good burger. We set outside at Village Square restaurant where the food was very good and the service was too. Village Square Restaurant They also had one of our favorite wines from Sunset Hills, their 2009 Viognier.

Speaking about ethnic food, we had very good sushi at a place called Sucilee. There's also a good burger spot in the pedestrian mall. It's a little hole in the wall, but worth discovering. Wish I could remember the name.

BTW, some quick side news since a few of you have wondered how things turned out. The news is good, I'm in remission. I'm doing very well and out in the garden again, so life is good.
Normie, it brightened my day to see that you're back, and totally made my week to learn that you're in remission. You just totally rock in so many ways in your life. Welcome back!

I'm glad for you, normie, and very happy to see your posts again. NoVA C-D without normie has a disquietingly barren feel... sort of like if the Once-ler had come in and had his way with the place. Anyway, WB!!!

Thanks for all the nice comments, you guys. It'll probably be a while before I can come back in a regular basis. I have a few other things I have to do this summer that take priority. But, as Ahhhnold says: "I'll be back!" Maybe in the fall.

normie, I think the burger join in the Winchester walking mall that you mentioned is called "Snow White." I plan to stop in there one day for lunch and will let everyone know how it is.

Now that we have a few regulars on this forum who are really familiar with Winchester, it'd be nice to see some photos of the others parts of town. Styx, LynchburgLover, RR--do any of you guys have photos to add?

I totally agree. I only saw a small portion of Winchester that day. Let's add photos of the rest of it, especially if anyone has photos of Shenandoah University. It has such a pretty little campus.

I doubt I could improve on Normie's pictures! They're great. Also, please don't judge Winchester by the Apple Blossom Festival. While that is great fun, it is the day-to-day that makes the place special.

Also, Snow White Grill -- old Washingtonians, think Little Tavern. You're really not missing much if you don't go there!

And, I do think Winchester will continue to grow -- outside the city limits. The Historic District is pretty tightly controlled with many, many long-time families overseeing the growth and change. I see this as a very, good thing. They love Winchester and want to maintain it for their future generations. There is tremendous community involvement in churches, civic organizations, city commissions, etc. Because they don't spend 4 hours a day stuck in traffic, they actually have time to be involved!

Y'all have a great day!

I totally agree. While the festival is fun, Winchester is so much more charming when there's no festival going on (IMO).

Charming, yes. But without that Festival, Winchester's budget woes would be much more fragile. I don't remember the exact amount but The Bloom brings in BIG bucks! If you want to have friends in Winchester, remember two things: vow to love The Bloom 'til your dying day and never, ever, ever criticize John Handley High School! They'll love you and welcome you, if you do.
