Hello everyone. I've also posted this on the Washington DC forum, but figured I'd come over here as well.

My boyfriend and I will be moving to DC soon. I'm starting school at the end of May and he'll be moving once he finds a job down there. We're looking primarily at Alexandria, because budget is tight. I guess our budget would be $1200-$1500 for rent? Can anyone recommend a safe, clean apartment complex in Alexandria that would fit that budget?? I've been doing a lot of research and many apartments that look nice online are rated as being dirty and infested with bugs. Thanks in advance!

Where are you looking to live in Alexandria? Closer to Old Town, metros, anywhere? One bedroom or two?

Also, online apartment reviews are a decent place to start, but I think you always need to take those with a grain of salt, in my opinion. I think most reviews have a negative slant because those are the people most likely to post about their experience.

Even the complex I live in had many negative reviews and warnings that I found to be unwarranted once I lived there for awhile.

I live off King Street in Alexandria...in a building called the Alexander. Its a very nice building...and you should call because they MAY be within your budget. If they are overpriced, you may wanna try 3001 or the Halstead. All nice buildings and all very safe b/c they have security and concierge service.

Thank you for your replies! We're looking for a one-bedroom. Being within walking distance to the Metro is not important. And I would love to be in Old Town, however, I realize it might be a little out of range, so really anywhere in Alexandria will do.

I will check out the Alexander, 3001, and Halstead for sure!

Cascade at Landmark, Elandria, Southport, and the private condos are places worth a look on the SW side of Alexandria City.

Use homesdatabase.com in your search also.

If you want to live in Old Town, call Monticello-Lee! My boyfriend and I were JUST in Alexandria looking for an apartment, and we looooooooooooved Monticello-Lee! We were very disappointed that they only had one bedroom apartments available (we need a two bedroom place so we can have an office). The one bedroom would be in your price range, and some utilities are included (I believe). The new renovations there are wonderful - hardwood floors and nice kitchens. If you prefer a hi-rise over a garden-style apartment, we thought London Park Towers was a good bang for your buck (and the only apartments where you can grill on the balcony - if that matters to you), and Foxwood Place seemed nice, with awesome exposed brick on one wall of the one bedroom apartments (both of those are further from Old Town, though).
