Over a month ago I was issued a reckless driving ticket in Fairfax County, Va. The officer claimed I was going 76 in a 55, one mile over what is considered reckless driving. Other than this I have no moving violations. This being said I have been charged with reckless driving of 21 over the the speed limit but I was going under 80. I have not been convicted of any moving violations nor do I have any points on my license. I have been driving for over 10 years and am a Maryland driver. I also heard that if the radar used was not a camera type it can be disputed. What is my best case scenario in Fairfax County court if I do not hire an attorney? Also does anyone know the name of an attorney that doesn't charge over $500?

Slowdriver? Might need to change your name. J/K. If it were me, I would not hire an attorney unless I was fighting the ticket. And for under $500 you'll likely only find an attorney who will go into court and get the same plea deal you could get. My advice comes from many years of being a police officer in NOVA but not in FX.
I would show up the day of court and find the officer. Ask him if he would be willing to ask the commonwealth attorney to reduce the charge to speeding 66/55 with a fine attached. It's possible the CA will only go with Improper Driving but the points are the same so it's no big deal. You might also ask about the safe driving school with a possible dismissal of the charge once completed. I don't know how they handle this in FX courts so you need to ask.
There are normally a boatload of cases everyday in court so making these deals in an everyday occurence. You may have the chance to speak to the CA as well so asking for this deal is normal.
If you get there and can't get the deal you have a right to ask for a continuance where you can then look into an attorney if you want.
