Hi,
We are thinking about relocating to the Frederickburg area from Western Pa. I am originally from Alexandria, but I haven't been to F'burg since I was a kid. It seems like homes in cul-de-sac land are affordable (300K range). We can't understand why we aren't seeing any old farmhouses for sale, even fixer-uppers. We really don't want to live in a cookie cutter neighborhood but where are the old houses?
K

Perhaps you should expand your search to Spotsylvania County. You may find more of what you're looking for further out. There are some nice older homes in town down along the river. Perhaps a better strategy would be to come down for the weekend and have a local realtor show you what's available in what you're looking for. I'm sure there are plenty of older places around there for sale.

We have looked all over the Stafford/Spotsy Fred area. I did not want a house in town, more of a farmhouse type. That is what we are having trouble finding on internet listings. I wondered if they are simply in short supply because of newer construction or are they terribly expensive and not coming up because of our search criteria. Or are we just stupid?

I wonder how many are remaining? Very often, farm owners sold their property and it got subdivided - into subdivisions! Old fixer-uppers exist in historic towns because the quaintness of the town gives them value. Old houses needing fixing out in the countryside often are more valuable for the land. Good luck with your search.

I have seen several that are just too far gone to be saved...

A lot were torn down when the farms were converted into neighborhoods. I have seen a couple on the market recently, but it appears most have been sold already.

I did find this one:
15 Schooler Loop, Fredericksburg, VA, 22405 - MLS #ST7194971 - Single Family Home real estate - REALTOR.com®

This next one isn't really a farm house, but it's old, cool, and on 4.5 acres:
7252 Cedon Rd, Woodford, VA, 22580 - MLS #CV7242177 - Single Family Home real estate - REALTOR.com®

There really isn't too much out there though...

Ok, I thought that perhaps there was just not much of what I was looking for for sale period. Thanks for the listings above.

If you're at all interested in other Nova small towns besides Fredericksburg, this incredible house in Round Hill needs a new owner. Definitely a fixer upper, but an amazing place none the less.

Hi Normie, where is the property located in Round Hill. This is exactly what I am looking for. I'm from Eastern NC and these are the types of houses I grew up around. Please let me know. I looked through the homesdatabase and I couldn't find it.
