Wow, no responses? I keep checking back to see what people are paying hoping to get a ballpark figure. I know many things come into play when estimating electricity bills but on average, what do you spend. Maybe list type of home and size so we have an idea. Thanks.

My Archstone apartment complex is on a socialized utility structure. This means if I'm particularly wasteful with water one month my bill may still not be higher than the prior month if my other neighbors were more conservative. On the flip side if I only used my gas stove once this month and my neighbors decided to cook every night, I'd be picking up their slack. I live in a 960-square-foot 1-BR unit.

With that being said the total for all of my utilities has been roughly $100/month. Here's an itemized breakdown of my most recent bill:

Electric: $43.20
Gas: $17.64 (Shocking, since I only cooked once last month).
Sewer: $9.15
Trash: $15.00
Water: $4.74 (Considering my long showers I'm HAPPY with that!)

My Verizon cable/Internet is a little over $100/month.

Hey Scranny, that gas bill wouldn't be so shocking if you have a gas-fired hot water heater...especially in light of those long showers.

It would be somewhat rare to have an electric hot water in a building with natural gas...electric water heaters suck up the juice! You normally find them where there's no gas hookup.

That makes sense! Me likey my long scalding hot showers (probably why I have such dry skin issues!) LOL!

I have a condo about the same size about 840 sq ft. All electric which includes W/D. I pay about $20 for about half a month so far (just moved here), so I think it will be about $0/month, but then again I am energy conscious and have not run my AC since I got here about a month ago. Expect it to be higher in winter and dead of summer. I too live in Alexandria

I live in Reston. 725 sq ft 1 BDR apartment. Everything electric. No gas.

My winter-time high was $204 (my first month in), but I think that was because of a maintenance issue. My next highest bill (which was the next month) was $154. My low was mid-April to mid-May, and that was $62. My summertime (AC) high was $102.

I live near Old Town in the Carlyle area. I have a 1250 sq ft 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment. It's primairily myself but my b/f is over often, and two dogs. I keep my temp around 72-74 degrees in the summer and 69-71 in the winter. My electric bill has never been higher than $90 and that was at the peak of summer. I average around $75. Oh but my building is very new (I am the first tenant in my apt) so I don't know if that plays a factor. I do have electric cooking as well, and my a/c and heat is on electric.

Insulation, window configuration, and type have a lot to do with it.
