Hi,

I was wondering if any of you have hired a company to clean the air ducts in your home. We recently purchased a 3-year-old home in Prince William County and are deciding if we should have the ducts cleaned, even though the house is relatively new.

Please share your recommendations, reviews, advice, etc.

Thanks!

Default Whole House Air Cleaners

Hi,

It's me again. I should have searched the forum before posting my question. Now I can't delete it!

From reading the replies from other members regarding the same topic, it appears that there is a consensus that duct cleaning is really ineffective and has not proven to substantially remove the amount of particles in the air.

That said, has anyone used a whole house air cleaner, the one that attached to the HVAC unit? If so, please let us know which one and if possible, the name of the company who installed it.

Thanks again!

Excellent article IMO.
Consumer Information Center: Should you have the air ducts in your home cleaned?

FYI, we bought a 5 yrs. old home last year and chose not to get the ducts cleaned, have had no problems at all.

Use a vacuum cleaner with the hose mechanism to suck out the link from your floor vents, and that'll do the job just fine! Air Duct Cleaning is a total rip-off, it's like snake-oil medicine for the home, and you don't need it.

Like the guy up there ^ said...snake oil for houses.

My HVAC guy of 30+ years says duct cleaning is total BS.....and he DOES it....because some of his customers insist.

He also says that indoor air quality can get WORSE after a duct cleaning, because it can disturb stuff best left undisturbed.
