When is the best time to go to the grocery store?
When is the best time to go to a restaurant?

Last night (Fiday) I went and picked up a pizza near Tysons Corner. The place was about 3miles from my house.
It took me over 1hour. I ended up eating dinner in my car while driving home!

Got any tips?

Tyson's is rarely ever "never congested". I live in Woodbridge and don't overly like driving the 8 miles to my closest Chipotle to pick up a burrito. Takes to long on Friday night. Too many people coming home from work AND trying to socialize at the same time.

Best times in Northern VA to do anything are prior to 11 AM.

I would say between 10 am - 2 pm or so. I rarely hit traffic during those times. It does happen, but not that often.

What about on the weekends?

Weekends are more unpredictable than weekdays. I generally try to get out and get things done and get back home no later than 10:00 (AM). If going out to dinner, we get there early (no later than 5:00).

Since we're retired, we can do our "regular" stuff - grocery shopping, work done on the car, kayaking (weather permitting), etc. - during the week. Even then, we tend to avoid anything on Friday afternoon.

My 11AM comment was actually directed towards the weekends. Obviously, during the work week, middle of the day is best.

Since I live in Prince William County, if I want to travel to to Tysons or up to DC on the weekends, I get out of my house early and get moving. So long as I am at Tyson's by 10:00 AM and get out by 1:00 PM, mall crowding and parking is not bad. Traffic is fine although will get "dicey" on I-95 South coming back home, but on Saturday's I've got HOV southbound lanes on my side until about 3:00 p.m. So I work with all of that. Once it is after about 2PM, I stick close to home and don't venture out on the interstate because of traffic. I wouldn't dream of eating dinner out at Tyson's at anytime after 5:00 pm as it would just be a zoo for me.

The best time to do things is when most other people AREN'T doing them. That usually means getting up early. Heading to Tyson's between 4-6 pm, even on a weekday, is asking for trouble.
As for the grocery store, when do most people shop? After work, on weekends, and especially on Sunday afternoon and evening.
