We are moving to Fairfax, VA and are looking for a good preschool for our 3 1/2 year old son. So far, we are considering Fairfax Presbyterian, Living Savior Lutheran and Spring Mar solely on internet searches. We are trying to find a good, smaller preschool since this will be our son's first time attending a new school (and in a new city). Since we do not know anyone with small children in the area, we have no personal recommendations/ input. Any opinions on these or others would be helpful.

St. Stephens Preschool on Braddock Rd in Burke - 703-978-8724 - resonable rates - small and caring for younger ones especially - both of my sons started there at 2 1/2 and one is in his last year there at 5 yrs old - I highly recommend them -
You need to sign up in Feb. for next year - there is usually a waiting list but sometimes kids leave and if you call now they might have some openings for right now.
Take a tour - I know you will like it.

FairfaxMom is correct that the "tours" and registration take place in January/February for the following Fall. Since your son is 3, you might be able to find a spot now if someone has dropped out.

We toured Living Saviour and liked it; it was in our top three choices along with St. Mary's of Sorrows and Burke Presbyterian. We enrolled our daughter in Burke Presbyterian and are very pleased so far. The director and teachers are very knowledgeable and involved. I like their holistic approach to child development: spiritual, physical, academic and emotional.

St. Stephens has a very good reputation. We didn't choose it because of the schedule (10:00 am - 2:00 pm) given that our child still naps and I want to keep it that way for as long as possible. Another well regarded preschool is Prince of Peace.

BTW, every January there is a preschool fair in Burke. It's a good one to attend because almost every preschool in Burke and Springfield is represented there.

My sons went to St. Stephens from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM - and they also have afternoon sessions. They have become more flexible.

You are correct. They have that schedule for anyone looking for 3-days per week for a 3-year old. Since I have a young 3 who will be in preschool 3 years before starting K, I was looking for a two-day program.

When my son was 2 1/2 he was on the 9 to 11:45 program 2 days a week -
Anyway - all schools mentioned are good and that preschool fair is a good idea also - I attended it last year - they usually hold it at the Burke firehouse.
