Hi,
I am originally from Roanoke,VA and have also lived in Stafford, VA. All my life I have heard that Fairfax county schools are tops in the nation. Now we have an opportunity to move there. My husband would be working at Ft. Belvoir, and I work in Fredericksburg, VA. My question is what makes Fairfax county schools so great? (I don't mean this in a negative way, I would just love to know what separates Fairfax from the other VA counties) and What about special ed. services. My son is 5 and has severe ADHD, learning disabilities and autism. He receives OT, speech, PT and ABA (at home after school which we pay for). What types of services, programs, etc... would Fairfax county offer that other surrounding counties may not offer. Since I work in Fredericksburg, we are trying to figure out if we should go back to Stafford (about half way between our workplaces) or go up to Fairfax county because of the schools. Would love to hear all the good and bad about these 2 places. Or is there another place we should look into? like Prince Wiliam county?
Thanks so much for any advice you can give us,
Michele

There's a wealth of information on the fairfax county school website- here is a link regarding ABA for autism.. if you search you can find what other special needs programs are incorporated..

Default ABA in Fairfax schools

Thanks for the info. The ABA program sounds great, but does this mean that ABA is given to all kids with autism or do you need to fight for this service? I have been to some areas that say they have an ABA program but you have to fight for it. It is not guaranteed.
thanks,
Michele

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with the specifics as my children are not in school (but am aware that there was ABA from a friend who moved here recently). I would call the special needs department listed on the link I sent to get more specific information.
