I am a single mother of 3 teens. Im looking to move to NOVA at the end of May but Im concerned about gang activity and crime due to the ages of my kids. I've heard that Fairfax, Falls Church, Woodbridge are nice areas but Im not familiar with any. Help!!

Where will you be working, and what is your housing budget?
Gangs and crime are not an issue in most of northern Virginia, but there are some isolated pockets of trouble, mostly in communities with many low-income immigrants.

Im going to be working in Gainsville. Housing budget would be about $1500-1800.

Unfortunately your housing budget simply will not allow for anything more than a 2 bedroom apartment in most parts of Fairfax and Falls Church. If work is in Gainesville then I would suggest looking in places on the metro fringe such as Culpepper or Front Royal, you will be able to get more for your money out there and the commute won't be too unbearable.

She could look into South Riding.

not too far from Gainsville I guess, if you want to live closer to Fairfax County

My advice would be to take a look at renting apartments or a single family house in North Manassas, by I-66. There are a bunch of properties that would fit the price range in that area, and your kids will be very well served by Battlefield HS, and well served by Stonewall HS as well.

Commuting to Gainesville from the above area shouldn't take longer than 15-20 minutes tops, door to door.

Welcome, in advance, to Prince William County!
