Moving to Chantilly and looking at where to live and buy a home.

Looking for advice for a high school with a good marching band and music program.

We’re narrowing down location to Westfield, Chantilly, or Stone Bridge. Can you offer any insight to help narrow down a location to live in? Thanks!

All of those schools are excellent public schools. Quick note, Stone Bridge is actually in Loudoun County (Ashburn) so it's a completely different school system than Fairfax County. Westfield and Stone Bridge are relatively new schools. It might be worth contacting those schools and meeting faculty there to get a feel for where you feel most comfortable.

What do you consider a "good marching band"?

What instrument does your kid play?

Large group with a decent music program. Has won decent ratings and participates in many tournaments.

Clarinet and another with the flute.

Thanks. I’ll reach out to their band directors.

Here are websites for the two in Fairfax County Public Schools. Both have Facebook pages as well. Both are exceptional. Westfield marches in the Rose Bowl parade years ago. Chantilly Jazz program is strong too.

Chantilly Band

Westfield Band

You're welcome. Here are also a couple of Wikipedia links to the Stone Bridge High School band and Westfield High School band.

Almost all of Fairfax County and Loudoun County High School's will have a good marching band program. I would highly suggest living in the catchment of Chantilly High School itself. I'm not a fan of Westfields at all - the high school is good for students who are doing well, but it fails students who need help. I've heard excellent things about Stone Bridge as well.

For the Chantilly school, look for the Franklin Farms area. It's often called the 'golden triangle' by folks who want good schools, easy commute to a job on the 28 corridor, and good shopping and easy access to main roads.

I have had kids in the Westfield band for the last 7 years. Westfield and Chantilly both have top notch marching band/music programs and you can't go wrong with either one. Stone Bridge has a fine band program but it is a bit smaller and is not quite at the same level as Westfield/Chantilly. If you are looking at Loudoun schools Freedom-South Riding or Champe would be the way to go.
