Just discovered that there is no local news channel for the area. We have direct tv and can request them to change our viewing area to Harrisonburg. Does Harrisonburg local news cover up to the winchester area. Just read that TV3 was Winchester's local news channel but closed down. What a shame!

Harrisonburg's news channel does not typically cover Winchester.

Most of the small market stations serve a population base much larger than Winchester (population about 25K).

The DC based channels somewhat cover Winchester weather. But they rarely ever mention any local news stories for Winchester.

Funny that this thread appeared when it did. WHAG has been covering a lot of news from the Winchester area this week- from a bank robbery, car break-ins to the FBI looking to build a site in Frederick County.

Check their website for details.

Yeah I agree with the WHAG coverage of Winchester. It seems to be as local as a local news station gets around here. I personally refer a lot to the Winchester Star website. You can learn a lot about what is going on from reading their stories.

So we now consider Winchester part of NOVA or Greater NOVA?

Winchester is growing, they are building houses out here like crazy and marketing them specifically to commuters who work in NOVA and DC.

I have a hard time calling Winchester part of NOVA though, it's really the Shenandoah Valley -- but that doesn't stop a lot of people who work in NOVA from living here.

Commuting from anywhere west of Loudoun County to NOVA and DC is one lousy commute. I have been doing it for the last six years and I have had it.
