I have some family coming into town on Thursday this week. They are staying through to Monday. They want to do the Smithsonian and some of the monuments, but are open to anything else. I've been looking at a few things (Harbor Holiday, ICE, COX farms for the Santa Visit), but just thought i'd ask the community what they might recommend. Thanks in advance!!

Meadowlark Botanical gardens has a light show that you can walk through. I'm not 100% sure it's open yet, but you can check their website to see.

1) ZooLights: Holiday Lights at the National Zoo is now open. It's free.

2) Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks at either the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden or Canal Park rink near the Washington National baseball stadium.

3) The National Building Museum near Chinatown is pretty cool. They have interesting exhibits and also a "Play, Work, Build" exhibit where you get to design and build stuff with Legos and with digital media.

If there are little kids, it's "Christmas in Middleburg" this Saturday.

I highly recommend the Hunt and Hounds parade at 11.

Zoolights is superior to Meadowlark display. I would recommend ICE as pretty neat and definitely unique attraction - though pretty expensive.

Seconding the Middleburg Christmas parade, and not just for kids. It's a good time for all. The hunt is quite impressive when it comes through.

You can't have them come to DC and not go to the Newseum. I've spent around 36 hours over 5 visits and I still haven't seen all there is to see. Worth every penny.
