Hello!

I'm just wondering about Arlington, VA and Fairfax, VA. Anything you can tell me about these cities in regards to residency. Anything goes--politics, education, diversity, commute, food, stuff to do, historical background, population, age range...

Let me know, thanks!

Hmm, okay how about this?

What is your opinion of these places? Thinking of moving to the area, wanted to know a resident's perspective rather than wikipedia.

Okay, I know that probably came across a little snarky, but you did say historical background, population, age range....

Here's some generalities for both places:
Large
Diverse,
Crowded
Expensive
Too much traffic
Liberal or leans that way
Plenty of things to do
Lots of historical things to see
Lots of shopping, including high end

I've seen your other posts and know you are wanting to move. This can be a great area for 30 somethings if you are willing to either have roommates or an incredibly well paying job. The other thing to know about the area is don't move here until you have a job lined up. That would be true for any area. Good luck.

Hello,
Just wondering about New York City.
Anything you can tell me about New York City in regards to residency.
Anything goes-politics, education, diversity, commute, food, stuff to do, historical background, population, age range...
I hear it might be large, diverse and well known.

(response: silence......)

Assuming you mean Fairfax City rather than Fairfax County then, as choff5 suggests, the two cities are similar in many ways.

Arlington County essentially functions as a mostly urbanized city. The "Orange Line" section of Arlington, named for the section of the Metrorail between Court House and Ballston stations, is nirvana for 20something professionals. That said, families and households of all ages live throughout. Arlington is very convenient for those who work (and play) in DC or even inner-Beltway sections of MD as well as Washington National Airport.

Fairfax, VA is the county seat of Fairfax County. It's relatively convenient to the job centers of Tysons Corner and the Dulles Tech Corridor (Herndon/Reston/Sterling). It's more suburban in nature and, despite a fleet of city, county regional buses that connect to the westernmost Orange Line Metro station, isn't served by transit as well as Arlington which has eleven Metro stations. While George Mason University brings a youthful feel to town, most younger professionals may be drawn here to for a shorter commute to the above job centers. Housing prices don't drop off as much as one would think, again because of Tysons and Dulles.
