Hi everyone! I'm in the process of opening a Pole dancing fitness Studio (for women) in Northern Va, within the next 4 months. The locations I'm looking at are Alexandria, Arlington, Tysons, or Merrifield I have done some "legwork" to see if there is a demand around the those areas, so far, I received positive feedback. I know there are a few studios i will be competing with but i will be bringing something new!

I would like to receive more thoughts, and opinions for those who live at the locations listed about opening a studio. I accept all opinions since it will only help my business out.

Thanks!

Have a good business plan -- make sure you have room for what you want to do, make sure there's no competition opening up in the next few months, etc.

It appears you are opening one in Southern MD and NoVA?

Personally, I would recommend only one at a time. A new business will require your presence almost 100% of the time. Trying to divide your time between two locations will likely result if failure for both. Get one up and running, and then focus on another.

Pole dancing? Is that like people in traditional European outfits dancing to polka music?

I think this type of class would do well. My friend goes to DivaFit in Herndon, and she loves it.

I have a DivaFit friend, who went to both Herndon and Chantilly locations.

Yes, this will likely do well, especially among the younger set, I think.

Try to get noticed or partnerships with those deal sites like Groupon. It will be free advertising and it will help generate customers!

groupon and the other deal sites take ~50% of any revenue generated on top of a already hefty 50% discount these sites insist on. So unless your business can sustain a model that has you giving away much of your margin I'd steer clear of Groupon and livingsocial.

Something else to consider, these deal sites can drive a few thousand new deal seeking customers to your doors. But a small fraction less than 10% convert to repeat business. The influx of new customers usually is all at once so another issue to bear in mind, can you handle a massive influx of new customers who are there for freebies.

Hi spencgr......I'm only going to open one studio. Based upon my research on Southern Md, I'm not sure that will be an ideal location to start off.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, keep it coming!
