The Loudoun school board just voted 7-2 to keep Broadlands/Ashburn residents in Brair Woods high school - plan 12.

The drama over who gets to "stay" at Briar Woods really went passed all sensible levels. Especially when most of it was over sports and not academics.

I'm happy to be zoned into the (brand new) HS-6.

I'm not. It is a 0.6 mile walk from my front door to Briar Woods.

I went to high school 15 miles from my house. Actually passed by 2 other high schools when going there. It didn't inhibit making friends or limit any after school activities. Your kids will be fine.

Oh, my kids won't go to HS-6 either. By the time they are high school age we will have been rezoned yet again to HS-11.

It's more disturbing from the "busing 84% of Brambleton out of the high school that's *in* Brambleton" point of view, as a taxpayer and community member.

All this "Plan 12" and "HS-11" stuff sounds like it's out of a Ray Bradbury or Harlan Ellison novel.

Living in LoCo often feels like science fiction.

Unfortunately, the folks who live in Brambleton seem to think they "own" Briar Woods because it was a Brambleton proffer. The larger issue in Ashburn is that the schools are not perfectly geo-distributed in regard to the school aged population. I don't think there is any way to "fairly" resolve this.
